BURGER KING CONFIRMS THAT THEY ARE USING HORSE MEAT IN THE BURGERS

Fast food chain Burger King admitted they’ve been using meat from horses for their burgers. They’ve been accused of the same from many years, but Burger King has always denied these accusations as rumors. The presence of horsemeat in beef is a sensitive issue in Britain and Ireland, which do not have a tradition of eating horses. The British tabloid The Sun reported the Burger King story under the headline “Shergar King,” a reference to a famous racehorse.

Officials say there is no risk to human health, but the episode has raised food security concerns.

Products from another Irish firm and one in Britain also were contaminated by horsemeat. Most had only small traces, but one burger of a brand sold by the British supermarket chain Tesco contained 29% horsemeat.

Irish food officials say an ingredient imported from an unspecified European country and used as filler in cheap burgers is the likely source of the horsemeat contamination.

“Burger King says its patties are made from 100% beef.

But last Thursday, they came out with an announcement admitting that the tests were wrong, apologizing to their customers”.

The company producing meat for BK was called Silvercrest. They also delivered meat for Asda, Co-op and Tesco. The ingredients in the meat they were supplying have been forbidden since last year.

As announced by Burger King on this subject:

“We discovered that Silvercrest is using small percent of beef originating from non-approved Polish suppliers, who promised to supply them with 100% British and Irish beef cutlets.

“They did not fulfill their promise.”

“All of this is completely against our rules and regulations, so we decided to end up the partnership with this supplier.”

“As we’ve confirmed, this Polish supplier is the source of the contaminated meat that came from Silvercrest.”
