How to recognize autism in children?


Autism is commonly recognized as an inappropriate reaction of the child to external stimuli in the form of sound, touch, presence of another person, spatial relationships and the like. Inaction of sound involves the omission of “answer” out loud and very often from their shores. There are several known cases from the practice in which the mother broke several plates, to ensure that something is wrong with her child. These children mostly do not want touch and have withdrawn or violent reactions in the form of crying or physical rejecting to people. On some sounds and stimuli they are closing their eyes or ears. They are also prone to isolation for no reason.

Children with autism are recognized for that they refuse a variety of foods, eat uniform food with same color, shape or smell. The child do not respond when you call them, so the impression is that the child does not understand the speech of others and is disobedient. Also, it refuse direct contact with other people except usually the mother or person in close surroundings and do look at the direction of the sound source or speech. They often sleep a little and there is a tendency to interference or interruption of sleep. The child express distrust and denial to an unknown person.

The dominant characteristic of these children is longstanding stereotypical game,  impression by the light and shadows as well as certain focal capabilities that makes these individuals to be perfectionists.

What parents should do to detect some of these symptoms? They need to monitor the development of their child and possible cases of even one of these symptoms should be a sign of closer examination of the child by the experts, from a child psychiatrist, a developmental psychologist, pediatrician and educator.

What causes the autism and how can it be recognized as early as possible?

Earliest, the autism can recognized in 18 month old child. Formerly it was believed that autism is a disease and as such is inherited. However, the latest research shows that there are only certain changes in some segments of the gene that are manifested through the spectrum of autistic disorders and behaviors. No one knows for sure exactly which gene is in charge of inheritance of autism and at this stage of development of science cannot prove nor inheritance with prenatal diagnosis to prevent this developmental disorder.
